Being 40

Being 40 doesn't make me feel old. I rather like being 40. For the most part, I feel that age is irrelevant. It doesn't matter how old you are, it is how you live your life - what you do with it - how you behave. My Father-in-law is 84, so how could I possibly feel old?

I'll tell you how - having your oldest child turn 16 - that's how you feel old!!!

My oldest child will turn 16 before July is over. I will officially be old then. I remember when I turned 16, what I was doing, who my friends were, the things I liked, the people I liked. Kinda freaks me out!!!

Things are different for my 16 year old. First of all, he is High Functioning Autistic, it's called Aspergers Syndrome. He doesn't do some of the normal 16 year old things (which is perfectly fine with me). He still likes to play his video games and play with bionicle, watch cartoons. But he doesn't hang out with other 16 year olds. I can only imagine how much older I would feel if he did those things.

Not too long ago I was doing some calculations, then I started to feel really old. Right now, son #1 is 16 - when son #5 is 16, I will be 54. That's not too bad, till you figure in that son #1 will be 30! Holy smokes!!!!!!!

So, here's to getting older and not feeling older!!!!

Yea I do that all the time too. When Jack is 18 I'll be 56, which doesn't see too bad but then when I figure out my oldest will be....34 well that just makes me feel old.

Happy early 16th to your oldest.

Thanks Kathy, I wish Myles and Jack could get together for a playdate!

My father-in-law is also 84~now if only I was just 40. If you add a 5 to that 40, that is how old I am. Yesterday my son, my second child turned 23! (And my oldest is 26, I know, scary.) But the funny part is my grandson will be 5 on Saturday and my dd is now feeling so old as she remembers going to kindergarten, lol.

That's funny Dot. When I turned 40 my oldest was 16 and she also has Aspergers and plays video games and bionicles and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and Teen Titans. :) (I'll be 42 a week from today and for some reason that makes me feel old... I still picture my *parents* as 42)
